For the next Behind the Desk installment, we’ll introduce you to Kelly Evans. Kelly recently joined our team as a part-time intern while she studies full-time at the University of Mary Washington.
Tell us a little bit about your background.
I am from Manassas Park, Virginia and currently a Junior at UMW pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree with a major in Political Science and a minor in Business Administration.
What was your first job?
My first job was working as a cashier assistant at a water park in my hometown as a freshman in high school. I worked there until my junior year of high school and then began working for Manassas Park Community Center as a Recreation Leader for summer sports camps until this past year. During the past two summers I have also worked for a Congresswoman and a City Councilman.
What are your favorite places to eat in the area?
My favorite places to eat in Fredericksburg are Soup & Taco, Capital Ale House, Hyperion Espresso, and Mason Dixon Cafe.
Share with us why you applied for this internship and what you hope to gain from it.
I applied for this internship to contribute and expand my knowledge of the staffing industry and was eager to take this opportunity with Matern Staffing team. I hope to gain experience and skills with networking, communications, building long-term relationships, and problem solving skills.
What’s your favorite thing to do on the weekends?
Most of my weekends are spent completing my school work. Besides that, my favorite things to do on the weekends are to explore downtown Fredericksburg with friends and spend time with my family.
What’s on your bucket list for this year?
My number one item on my bucket list this year is to travel to at least two new beaches and big cities on the east coast that I have not visited yet.
What’s the most played song on your music playlist?
The most played song on my playlist would be any song by Luke Combs.
Would you rather travel by plane, train or automobile?
I would rather travel by automobile because I would be able to use my own, which would allow me to more easily go anywhere I would like.
