General Laborer – Entry Level – 1st Shift

Matern Staffing is hiring a General Laborer (Entry Level, 1st Shift) for a fire-retardant treated wood plant in Bowling Green, VA. In this hands-on role, you’ll be a vital contributor to plant operations by supporting clean-up, material handling, packaging, and yard maintenance across a variety of departments. 

Whether you’re stacking treated lumber or supporting the maintenance team with fire watch duties, the General Laborer (Entry Level, 1st shift) will play an important role in keeping the facility running efficiently and safely. This is a great opportunity for someone starting their career or looking to enter the manufacturing industry. You’ll gain exposure to multiple departments and develop skills that can lead to long-term growth within the company. 

Salary:

•  $17/hr

Schedule:

• 1st shift: 7:00am-5:30pm, Monday thru Friday

What You’ll Do as General Laborer Entry Level 1st Shift:

• Perform a variety of physical labor tasks including clean-up, stick laying, packaging, yard maintenance, and fire watch
• Support operations across departments including Maintenance, Kilns, Shipping, Receiving, and Treating
• May safely operate mobile equipment such as forklifts, vehicles, or tractors, depending on training and assignment
• Follow environmental and safety procedures while reporting any unsafe or non-compliant activities

What You’ll Need as General Laborer:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Ability to pass a background check and drug screening
• Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical systems is encouraged
• Strong attention to detail with great follow-through to ensure accuracy and execution
• Active listener who collaborates effectively with teammates, always ready to step in to help
• Physical ability and willingness to work in all weather conditions (heat, cold, humidity, rain), lift/carry 50 lbs or more, perform physically demanding tasks, and work comfortably at heights up to 100 feet.
• Basic computer skills with a willingness to learn
