Gretchen’s recent career has been rooted in advocacy, first championing the needs of foster parents and children, and now, advocating for businesses in the community. Her transition from supporting individuals to empowering local enterprises showcases her passion for making a difference, no matter the focus.
Before joining the business advocacy organization, Gretchen worked as a foster parent recruitment coordinator for a local foster care agency. Even though the role was in marketing, it focused heavily on sales. Feeling a strong pull back to a more marketing centric role, Gretchen started a new job search. Her desire for a change led her to Matern Staffing, but the path wasn’t straightforward.
A Connection & Resilience
Gretchen already knew Ginni from their work together on steering committees of businesswomen. When Ginni learned that Gretchen was on the lookout for a new opportunity, she quickly reached out with a job that seemed like a perfect fit. However, on the day of Gretchen’s second interview with the client, she faced a serious family emergency. Ready to put her job search on hold, Gretchen almost walked away. But Ginni’s support was unwavering. She advocated for Gretchen to continue the process, showing patience and understanding that made all the difference.
“Recruitment agencies are worth it! They helped me negotiate my pay, facilitated all communication and made sure I was interviewing with an organization that fit me.” – Gretchen
Collaboration & Creativity
Now, as part of the business advocacy organization, Gretchen thrives in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment where no two days are the same. She manages the organization’s e-newsletter and website, works closely with the workforce-centric board and committee, and supports the graphic designer and social media manager, among other tasks. Gretchen loves the speed at which the organization moves and the freedom to be creative and try new ideas. She collaborates with an incredible team that shares her passion and drive.
Making an Impact & Gaining Knowledge
One of Gretchen’s proudest accomplishments is the “love letter” video to first responders that they produced last year. She and her team traveled to all five localities in PD 16, visiting police and sheriff stations and fire stations. The result was a powerful five-minute video that highlighted the vital work first responders do for the community.
Since starting her role, Gretchen has grown professionally, expanding her knowledge of local elected officials, board supervisors, and delegates. She has also focused on her own professional development within the organization. Gretchen also recently earned a promotion to Director of Marketing and Communication.
Consider a Recruitment Agency
Looking back on her journey from being recruited through a staffing agency to her current success, Gretchen advises others to consider a similar path. “Recruitment agencies are worth it,” she says. “They helped me negotiate my pay, facilitated all communication, and made sure I was interviewing with an organization that fit me.”
Resilience, creativity, and impactful opportunity – that’s Gretchen’s story.
