Matern Staffing is hiring a Communications Intern for a public utility organization in Fredericksburg, VA. In this role, you’ll shine a spotlight on the everyday heroes powering our communities—writing feature stories, crafting internal content, and developing messages that educate and engage the public. From employee profiles to website copy, your writing will help build connection, trust, and pride in the organization.

There are openings for Internal and External Communications. This paid summer internship is a hybrid role with part-time hours (15–25 hours/week), perfect for students eager to gain real-world media production experience.

What You’ll Do:
What You’ll Do:- Write feature stories for the employee magazine and internal news platform
- Create digital content to keep staff engaged and informed
- Craft messaging for newsletters, website content, bill inserts, and email campaigns
- Assist in planning and developing storytelling content that reflects company values and culture
- Interview employees and community members to develop compelling human-interest pieces
- Collaborate with team members to brainstorm fresh ideas and campaigns
- Help maintain a consistent tone and voice across communication channels
What You’ll Need:
- Currently enrolled in (or recently graduated from) a degree program in communications, journalism, public relations, English, or a related field (3.0 GPA or higher preferred)
- Strong writing and storytelling skills, with a knack for turning interesting ideas into engaging content
- Comfortable interviewing others and working with teams across the organization
- Positive, curious, and eager to learn with excellent time management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects
- A self-starter mindset with creativity and curiosity at the core
