Matern Staffing is hiring an Operations & Construction Services Intern at a public utility organization in Fredericksburg, VA. This is an internship that runs from February 3 – August 15, 2025. The internship will start off at one 8 to 10-hour day per week and increase up to 40 hours per week upon being fully trained.
As an Operations & Construction Services Intern, you’ll support our client’s OCS department by resolving discrepancies between inspection data and field inventory. Researching and analyzing mapping systems with field data can be challenging but gaining real-world experience and ensuring the GIS maps are accurate and thorough are invaluable to our client’s record management.
Salary & Schedule:
- $19/hr

What You’ll Do as an Intern:
What You’ll Do as an Intern:- Support the Systems Inspections Administrator by going out into the field to check and confirm information
- Update GIS records and maps as needed
- Resolve discrepancies between inspection data, GIS data, and field inventory
- Provide logistical support for long-term projects and aid the team in meeting project goals
What You’ll Need as an Intern:
- Undergraduate or graduate student (preferred, 3.0 GPA and above)
- Valid Virgina Driver’s License with a good driving record
- Basic computer skills (MS Office suite, specifically to include MS Excel)
- Ability to read, interpret, and navigate by both utility and publicly available mapping systems
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Experience in working outdoors and within utility rights-of-ways, in both urban and remote environments
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Positive self-starter with a proactive approach, excellent time management, and prioritization skills
- Active listener who collaborates effectively with teammates, always ready to step in to help
- GIS Operator experience preferred
