Matern Staffing is hiring a Facilities Technician III for an apparel distribution center in Ashland, VA. In this role, you’ll be a key player in ensuring smooth and safe operations by maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing essential building and material handling equipment. Your expertise and process improvements directly impact efficiency, safety, and sustainability—keeping the facility and its team moving forward.
When critical equipment fails, you’re the problem solver who restores operations. Using your mechanical skills, attention to detail, and proactive approach, you’ll help maintain conveyor systems, AutoStore equipment, and other critical infrastructure.
This is a direct hire position with multiple shifts available.
Salary:
$53,600-$68,600/yr + $3k sign-on bonus
Schedule:
- Morning: 6am-2:30pm, Monday thru Friday
- Day: 2:30pm – 11pm, Monday thru Friday
- Overnight: 11pm – 7:30am, Monday thru Friday
- Overtime as required, which may include weekends

What You’ll Do:
- Perform minor and major repairs on all material handling equipment, including warehouse automation systems (AutoStore), conveyor belts, and mechanical components
- Conduct preventive maintenance on facility equipment, inspecting belts, checking fluid levels, replacing filters, and lubricating bearings/seals
- Troubleshoot, resolve, and provide process improvements to facility and mechanical system issues, responding promptly to emergency maintenance requests
- Oversee and coordinate external contractors/vendors involved in equipment installation, commissioning, and facility maintenance
- Complete and maintain accurate daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance records.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulatory requirements, and HAZMAT record-keeping
- Operate computer-controlled monitoring systems for mechanical and utility equipment
- Perform outside custodial duties, including snow removal, as needed
- Obtain estimates for supplies and repair parts, ordering as necessary
What You’ll Need:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- At least 4 years of facility maintenance experience is required
- Experience with conveyor, pneumatic and some electronic experience
- Strong experience using hand and power tools
- Experience operating warehouse equipment (preferred)
- Basic math skills inclusive of ratios, percents, and ability to interpret drawings and schematics
- Proactively approaches situations with excellent time management and prioritization skills
- Strong attention to detail with great follow-through to ensure accuracy and execution
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Active listener who collaborates effectively with teammates, always ready to step in to help
- Ability to lift/carry up to 60 lbs and perform necessary physically demanding tasks as needed
- Ability to work in cold and hot climates
- Ability to pass drug screening and background checks
