Matern Staffing is hiring a Director of Fundraising of a nonprofit theater in Fredericksburg, VA. The Director of Fundraising will drive initiatives that engage donors, build lasting relationships, and support the theater’s mission.

Director of Fundraising standing in front of a theater stageWhat You’ll Do:

  • Fundraising
    • Oversees all fundraising and development activities
    • Establishes and implements infrastructure to grow annual revenue through solicitation of major gifts, federal/state/local grants, special events, and corporate and foundation support
    • Creates and implements an annual development campaign
    • Identifies, cultivates and manages a robust individual giving prospect list
    • Builds and maintains strategic partnerships with current and prospective donors including corporations, foundations, charitable trusts and other entities
    • Maintains accurate and complete records of donors, sponsors, and other stakeholders to analyze fundraising performance
    • Prepares grant requests and requisite budgets with the authorization of the CEO and Producing Artistic Director
    • Routinely assesses and reports the performance of funding sources and trends
  • Engagement:
    • Contributes to the planning and execution of events to ensure exceptional experience with a focus on cultivation and stewardship
    • Organizes fundraising events such as and not limited to galas, benefit concerts, auctions, and community events to maximize participation and revenue
    • Creates opportunities for members and donors throughout the year
  • Sales & Marketing
    • Collaborates with the marketing team to develop strategies across, but not limited to, print, email, radio, and online communications to support fundraising efforts and raise brand awareness
    • Drafts and delivers presentations to targeted sponsors, donors, community groups, and more
  • Management:
    • Collaborates with staff and board to identify funding needs, set targets, and strategize best approaches with the authorization of the CEO and Producing Artistic Director
    • Provides leadership, coaching, and hands-on engagement with staff and the Board of Trustees to increase their capabilities and effectiveness for fundraising
    • Collaboration with key stakeholders
    • Attends external community and networking events to develop relationships with strategic partners
    • Works with the Board of Trustees and volunteer committees to leverage their networks and expertise in fundraising activities

What You’ll Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Performing Arts and prior experience in fundraising or similar role
  • Proven experience in managing and growing relationships with multiple donor sources
  • Leader who calmly and efficiently adapts, seeing the potential for opportunity when challenges present themselves
  • Skilled at influencing and engaging diverse donors, fostering long-term relationships, leading strategic and tactical fundraising
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective collaboration with stakeholders
  • Confident public speaker with excellent time management and decision-making abilities
  • Demonstrates integrity, credibility, and commitment to the theater’s mission and values
  • Innovative, highly motivated, and capable of solving problems effectively
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, donor research platforms, and database management software
