For our third Behind the Desk installment, get to know more about Michelle Mills-Jones. She’s a veteran in the staffing industry, who’s always up for a challenge and ready for a laugh!
Describe your current role at Matern Staffing in a few sentences. I’m the Vice President of Operations. My role is to provide support in all aspects of the day-to-day operations of employee placement, payroll, and other human resource functions.
Where/what was your first job?
My first job was with the Federal Government as a publication typist and then Administrative Support to the location manager.
What do you like most about your job?
I love being able to see the difference we make in other’s lives, both employees and our clients. I love that our boss gives us all the tools we need to succeed and promotes a healthy, balanced work/life environment for working.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in South Stafford/White Oak area.
What’s the best piece of advice you have for job seekers?
Work hard, and find and follow your passion.
What are three words your coworkers would use to describe you?
LOL…Crazy! They’d also describe me as dedicated, compassionate, and always optimistic
What are your 3 favorite local restaurants?
Olde Towne Steak & Seafood, Ponchos, & Renatos
What is your favorite thing to do on the weekend? Spending time with my family – cooking and playing board and card games.
Where do you most want to travel, but have never been?
I would love to visit Fiji.
Are you more of a college or professional football fan? Fave team?
Professional – Dallas Cowboys! How about those COWBOYS?!
What’s on your bucket list this year?
I’d like to spend Thanksgiving week with all of our family in Hatteras, spend a weekend shopping for Christmas gifts in New York City, plan for Scott’s 2018 graduation party while helping him get a job in the radio industry.

Would you rather travel by plane, train or automobile?
I prefer automobile. I hate not being in control while traveling.
